KEFRAMA COLLEGE Project
KEFRAMA COLLEGE is a project initiated by BARR Sub-county community members in partnership with Lango Youth Action For Development(LAYAD).
The project aimed to tackle one of the many problems that affect members of this community. This area is mainly rural and families face a lot of difficulties to allow their children obtain basic education.
Literacy rate is very low.
Even though there is one government aided secondary school in Barr sub-county, it has not supported it with adequate infrastructure and teachers.
Many families are not able to send their children to school due to the looming poverty level in this area due to the Lord's Resistance Rebels' activities that forced almost all members of this sub-county to the internally Displaced persons' Camps for when rebel activities were intense.
Our Mission is to provide education to these vulnerable children of the rural area of Barr, so they would not be deprived of education based on their geographical location or family financial circumstances.
Community members wish to put up a structure which will guarantee free education for the most needy and low cost fees for poor families to create jobs and become self sufficient.
KEFRAMA COLLEGE would like to attempt to bridge the gap between rich and poor by offering good quality education for the most underprivileged. The college will benefit children from Barr Sub-county and children from other neighbouring Sub-counties of Aloi, Omoro, Apala, Amugu, Abako,Adekokwok and Amach. Sub-counties shall benefit from the intended scholarship scheme as the school shall offer scholarships to 14 students as well who perform very well at primary leaving examinations each year.
Location
BARR sub-county lies on the eastern side of Lira district, 10 miles from Lira town. It is a sub-county with a population of about 16000 people, greatest percentage being women and children. Their main economic activity is peasantry farming.
