A True Story

picture4 (88K)Living as an orphan is usually associated with too many difficulties.

The situation becomes worse when one looses both parents, either due to war or HIV/AIDS.

Many children begin to walk the streets in towns, causing a lot of problems to the general population as many of them turn into thieves.

Many of such children have been killed in the streets of Lira town as they try to steal things in order to survive.

Education is something that has become more of a liability than an asset to such children and there are usually not many helping hands since some people take many of them as hard to love due to their bad behaviors.

Even when some people offer to take care of such orphans, many times they are mistreated and even not sent to school.

One such example is Costa Apio, one of the total orphans is a victim of circumstance-she lost both of her parents to the deadly HIV virus and they were only left in the hands of guardians who seem not to be caring.

Costa had to sit home for more than a year because the person who was taking care of her and her twin sister and two younger brother could not give the support needed. a school volunteered and she was able to finish ordinary level education.

She could no longer continue with studies as she had to start taking care of her younger brothers and the twin sister.

A good Samaritan helped pay for her to join nursery teachers' college. She now earns 80.000 Uganda shillings which she uses to take care of her sisters' education and her two brothers-however,the 80.000shs is not even enough as she has to provide food and accommodation as well.

Children like these are quite many and suffering, sometimes unnoticed. As a community,we feel it is our duty to give a helping hand to such hurting children.

We were able to link Costa to an institution that decided to offer her partial scholarship so she might do a diploma course. However, her two brothers and sister continue to suffer with no one to pay their education.

KEFRAMA College came into existence so as to help those it can,by providing free and reduced cost secondary school education and also giving scholastic materials to those hurting children who are still in primary schools.

If you feel you can make a contribution to this noble course and to help children in the state like Costa and her siblings, please donate.
